Best place for single near retiree to live in central florida?

I am a single female of sixty looking for a safe, affordable, place to live in central Florida. I have lived in Florida since 1999 (Daytona Beach and Hollywood) and enjoyed central rather than southern. I am residing in Port Charlotte (near Punta Gorda) right now and I do not like it. No jobs, public transportation or friendly people. I loved it in Daytona but would like to be more inland,but not on west coast side. I will be seeking employment so somewhere that's not out in the boondocks would be nice. I also seek a DIVERSE racial community.
