Do you think most men are somewhat ist deep down?

I've noticed that a lot of guys I meet (nice, normal, college-age guys) always seem really charming and treat girls like equals, but when it comes down to it- either in relationships or around their friends- they begin to show their chauvinistic side. Are all guys just like this inherently? Or are just a lot of guys somewhat insecure at this age still? I thought its just a stage that guys grow out of eventually.. but maybe I was wrong.
