Does anyone know the name of and whereabouts of a doctor in this country who knows of vocal chord dysfunction?

i have this condition but have not been treated for it because although it is very common,it is not understood outside of america.v.c.d is usually mistaken asthma.i know there iis a doctor in birmingham who treats the condition but my doctor cannot refer me untill we get a name and hospital.we know of this doctor because a lady told her story"my vocal chords are strangling me"in a ladies magazine but no details,please help someone out there knows who and where this doctor is.
